My 17 1/2 foot mahogany wooden kayak is finally finished and I’m happy to report that it floats! Read about the four hour maiden voyage as I paddled it home!

I’m finally down to the last steps! Sanding, end pours, varnishing, drilling holes for the hardware and attaching the seat, foot braces and deck rigging!

After a visit from our local newspaper reporter, work begins on the cockpit coaming and seat installation.

After all the preparation on the deck, it’s finally ready for the fiberglass!

At this point, both the inside of the hull and the inside of the deck are fiberglassed, and it’s time to put them together. The outside seam is easy; the inside seam is another story.

After a few more steps on the inside deck, I remove the temporary frames, clean up the hull and fiberglass the inside! I pulled a family team together for fiberglassing this time!
