Woodworking Teachers: 1 year, 1 month ago · ViewHi My name is Phil. I am teaching woodworking and woodcarving to a boys 4H club. I am not a school teacher but I hope what I have going it acceptable for this group. Right now I have 4 boys, all 14 years old, and I really don’t think I could handle more.
I have been in social service ministry for 20 years, 10 with The Salvation Army, now 10 with an inter-faith, county wide group. Which is how I came to the involvement with 4H. I really felt bad for some of the boys that I had on case load. The boys want to be identified with men but as kids in single parent homes, most of the guys they knew were only trying to hit up on their mom. I never realized how wonderful it could feel when a boy discovers something about himself, and learns he can create something of value, and be appreciated for his skill. I feel like the boys are finding at least a love for wood, and that maybe they are going to be craftsmen for their occupation. Well I don’t want to rattle on too much but I am looking forward to this connection.
